FirstWind Power!

FirstWind Power is a First Nations' owned company registered in the Province of B.C.

FirstWind is participating in the "greening" of Indigenous lands by unique methods, utilizing modern wind power technology for electrical power generation linked with existing power grids. These developments provide an avenue for Indian Tribes and First Nations to participate in the economic development potential of the project long-term, creating both training and jobs on a local level.

There are several avenues FirstWind is able to develop greater capacity for electrical power generation using this methodology:

  • Negotiating agreements with Indian Tribes/First Nations who have the available land and sufficient wind resource potential to enable demonstrable wind power generation of electricity.

  • Partnering with other wind power developers to enable wind development of capacity that is either on Indian reserves or in Indian Tribal/First Nation traditional territories.

  • Work with smaller communities to enable development of community based wind power generation in order to alleviate the dependence upon diesel-generated electrical power.

All potential avenues are being explored in order to bring FirstWind to the forefront of wind power generation of electricity in B.C. and elsewhere.

 Leading Edge of Knowledge:

There are significant First Nation/ Indian Reserve/ Tribal lands and very extensive traditional territories in Canada and the USA as well as in most other parts of the world.

Canada has 655 individual First Nations/Indian Bands with 2,828 Indian Reserves and there are 554 Indian Tribes in the USA with over 300 Indian Reservations. These lands, comprising approximately 3.2 million hectares in Canada and 22.5 million hectares in the USA are mostly marginalized from cities and often free of conventional zoning regulations.

In other words, zoning and permitting decisions rest with the First Nation/Indian Band or Tribe. The complexity of First Nations or Tribal law regarding land and title generally tends to be viewed as an obstacle.

The usual method of acquisition of wind development rights is therefore seen as problematic and time consuming on these lands.

FirstWind Power leaps these hurdles to assist in providing access to excellent lands for development of wind farms.

Legal Framework:

FirstWind leads in knowledge of the in-depth requirements of federal law relating to Indian Reserves in Canada and Indian Reservations in the USA as well as the tremendous complexities surrounding environmental impact and permitting requirements.

FirstWind has superb technical expertise at hand to ensure wind farm development is brought to fruition quickly, efficiently and cost-effectively.

FirstWind can assist in developing wind farm potential as well as assisting with permitting requirements for these unique lands.

FirstWind is poised to rapidly deploy required infrastructure developments enabling capacity-building in Indigenous lands of the Americas and elsewhere.
